CTAQUA: About us

At the Andalusian Aquaculture Technology Center, CTAQUA, we work to respond to the needs of the aquaculture and seafood sectors, developing custom-tailored solutions for their different technical and production processes.

Our facilities are located in El Puerto de Santa Maria, an excellent location in the province of Cadiz (Spain) that enables the development of our activities and projects with our strategic collaborators on a regional, national and European level.

We firmly believe that innovation is a driving force for competition and economic growth of companies, and that is why our work is focused on results-based research.

The legal form of CTAQUA is a private non profit organization and 80% of its members are aquaculture farmers, feed companies and other industry related enterprises; Universities are also members of Ctaqua as well as regional governmental institutions.

CTAQUA was founded on October 2, 2007. In May 7, 2008, CTAQUA was legally recognized as Foundation and inscribed in the Andalusian Foundation Registry.

Juan Manuel García de Lomas Mier – General Manager
Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Extremadura. Expert in production planning and control, environmental management and development of marine aquaculture activities and the environment. Professor and coordinator of the Master in Fishing and Aquaculture (Commercialisation Module) of the University of Cadiz.

He worked at CUPIMAR developing different functions in the hatchery and grow-out facilities. In recent years, he was coordinator for the different farm locations of the company in the Bay of Cádiz.

Professor of intermediate and higher level educational programmes in the speciality of Marine Cultures at I.E.S. Sancti – Petri, in San Fernando (Cadiz).

María del Mar Barrios Galán – Technical Director
Bachelor’s degree in Marine Sciences from the University of Cadiz. She developed research work in the university’s genetics laboratory until 2006. Subsequently, she received further training during the two years she worked at the General Secretariat of Marine Affairs, as part of the General Secretary’s support unit. a.

María del Mar Agraso Martínez –Technical Director
Bachelor’s degree in Marine Sciences from the University of Cadiz.
International Master’s in Fishing and Aquaculture (University of Cadiz).
Over six years of experience in the private and public aquaculture sectors.

Myriam Retamero Coro – Project Manager
iBachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Seville.
Specialised in Marine Biology at the University of San Cristobal de la Laguna.
