Sustainable Aquaculture at the Mediterranean Diet Fair in Tavira
The S2AQUAcoLAB proudly participated in this year’s Mediterranean Diet Fair in Tavira, an event dedicated to promoting sustainability and seafood quality. Our team showcased the finest aquaculture products while engaging visitors in a series of interactive activities that highlighted the importance of sustainable seafood practices.
In collaboration with IPMA/EPPO, we welcomed many children, families, and attendees to our stand, where they took part in educational games and learned about aquaculture. The hands-on experience was an enriching one for everyone, sparking interest in sustainable fish farming and the environmental benefits it provides.
A standout moment of the event was the unforgettable showcooking demonstrations led by Chef Luís Jesus, along with students from Escola Secundária Pinheiro e Rosa. Together, they prepared six delightful seafood dishes—three with seabream and three with seabass—under the theme “From Fish to Bone.” This showcase celebrated the full utilization of seafood, promoting the importance of sustainable consumption and minimizing waste.
Adding to the experience, participants had the chance to taste fresh and sustainably sourced fish, generously provided by our associate Atlantikfish, further underscoring our commitment to responsible aquaculture.
This activity is directly aligned with the AQUAFISH0.0 project, which focuses on the innovative use of by-products from fisheries and aquaculture. By spotlighting the full utilization of fish, from head to bone, we emphasize the project's core objective: reducing waste and enhancing sustainability in the seafood value chain.
AQUAFISH 0.0 is a project funded by ERDF through the INTERREG Atlantic Area 2021-2027 programme (project code EAPA_0062/2022).
