Laboratorio colaborativo sustainable and smart aquaculture (S2AQUAcoLAB)
The S2AQUAcoLAB is dedicated to Aquaculture and plays a pivotal role in the industry, giving support, delivering innovation and knowledge to stakeholders and academia. In the AQUAFISH project, we will contribute to the sustainable development of aquaculture and fisheries, being involved, specifically in two key tasks within the project.
Firstly, in WP1, Circular Processes in Aquaculture and Fisheries, led by CTAQUA, our contribution includes proposing concept ideas for new products derived from the by-products of turbot processing and conducting concept analyses for these new products. Additionally, we are involved in pilot actions, developing novel food products using aquaculture by-products, and conducting sensory evaluations and prototype assessments together with the project promotor. We are also now involved in the quantification of byproducts and bycatches of fishing and aquaculture at the national level.
Secondly, in WP3, Social Acceptance of Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries Products, led by IARA, the goal is to secure social acceptance for the innovative products and processes developed in WP1. S2AQUA efforts will help to raise awareness and engage stakeholders, including policymakers, industries, and the public, about the benefits of these sustainable practices. Specific actions include engaging future consumers through tailored activities in schools and promoting new products to the catering industry. The public will help to enhance the project's visibility and reach a wider audience.
Through these efforts, S2AQUAcoLAB is committed to fostering a circular economy in aquaculture and fisheries, driving innovation, sustainability, and social acceptance of new food products derived from aquaculture by-products.
