El Instituto de Empleo y Desarrollo Tecnológico (IEDT) de la Diputación de Cádiz (Spain)
IEDT of the Provincial Council of Cadiz is the body in charge of attracting and managing European Funds with the aim of implementing sustainable economic and social development in the province of Cadiz. Its objective is based on seeking to improve the quality of life of the people of Cadiz through the management of initiatives and actions focused on the socio-economic and technological development of the region. This includes the generation of quality and sustainable employment from economic, social and environmental perspectives.
One of the main sources of funding for the IEDT is the European Structural and Investment Funds. The efficiency in the management of these funds, reaching nearly 500 million euros since the foundation of the institute, has been rewarded with several European awards. Many of these funds, given the importance of the sea for Cadiz, traditionally a significant source of wealth and employment, have been earmarked for the development of the blue economy.
An example of this is the Programme for the Promotion of Green/Blue Employment and environmental preservation of the ecosystemic resources of the province of Cadiz recently approved by the IEDT.
This programme aims to promote the consolidation and transformation of productive activity to generate green and blue jobs, facilitating industrial decarbonisation and reducing the carbon footprint of provincial production. To this end, it promotes the adoption of new technologies that enable the technification of strategic sectors, particularly in the primary sector.
The specific objectives of the programme include:
- Increase the efficiency of energy consumption.
- Limit greenhouse gas emissions.
- To reduce the carbon footprint of production processes.
- Minimise waste and pollution.
- Protect and restore ecosystems.
- Contribute to climate change adaptation in general.
The aim is to achieve a more efficient and resilient province in the face of climate change and new socio-economic challenges. With these actions, the IEDT seeks not only to promote sustainable economic development, but also to protect the natural environment of Cadiz, thus ensuring a prosperous and balanced future for its inhabitants.
With regard to the role of the organisation within the project, its involvement in both WP.0 and WP.3 stands out.
In the framework of WP.0, the services of a technical assistance specialised in projects of the INTERREG ATLANTIC AREA Programme have been subcontracted, which has allowed the consolidation of a proposal that has finally been approved within the framework of the programme.
In the case of WP.3, the IEDT will lead several activities to promote responsible consumption and sustainability in the aquaculture and fisheries sectors, promoting the culture of the three Rs: Reduce, Recycle and Reuse.
Specifically, it will be carried out:
- Master chef and show cooking to promote responsible consumption using by-products and/or products of low commercial value.
- Holding of workshops for professionals in the sector at Visitor Centres in Natural Parks on topics such as the empowerment of the aquaculture and fisheries sectors, the potential of the blue economy, environmental advice and the contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
AQUAFISH 0.0 is a project funded by ERDF through the INTERREG Atlantic Area 2021-2027 programme (project code EAPA_0062/2022).
